Value networks in construction (SARA, Findland)

Sara is a five-year technology programme (2003-2007) with an estimated total budget of EUR 33 million. Using information technology and managing customer needs, the programme aims to achieve substantial productivity and quality improvements, and to provide the building owner with maximum life-cycle value instead of minimum life-cycle costs.

The programme has been divided into the following four sectors:
  • Services, systems, products and materials
  • Customer needs
  • Process data management
  • Creating a basis for successful international operations
The sectors form an entity in which customer-oriented product development helps to convert methods for anticipating, identifying and managing customer needs into new products and services that generate added value for customers. The added value will be produced by orchestrating advanced processes and business networks so that new business models based on life cycles can be created.

Efficient process data management enables life cycle thinking to be integrated into process management, added value to be optimized and the information gathered to be used in the life cycle. Data management will function as the technical platform and tool for the value network formed by the process implementers.
